Pilates is a holistic exercise system designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to balance. Pilates has been developed and practiced since the 1920s when Joseph Pilates and his wife, Clara, taught their body conditioning method called "Contrology" in New York. While Joe died in 1967 development of the Pilates method has continued and his approach to total well0-being and principles of breath, concentration, centre, control, precision and flow remain at the heart of the method.
